Founder:
Late Dr. R.M. Sahai
(1937-2003)
A Visionary – missionary with the mission for
better vision - is how best we can describe Dr. Ram Mohan Sahai. Born in 1937 in
a school head master’s family in Datia, MP, he imbibed the lessons of patriotism
and service before self quite early in life. Self financing his studies by
running a second hand bookshop, he breezed his way through school and medical
education in India and stepped on English shores in pursuit of best possible
training in his chosen vocation - Ophthalmology. Gathering the best possible
pearls for his country, he brought it back to his people and offered his
services through Sahai Hospital in Jaipur. Under his able guidance, this
hospital flowered to become one of the premier institutes for ophthalmic care
& training not only in Rajasthan but in North India as well. Through this
100 bedded hospital and also by directly reaching out to the rural masses, Dr.
Sahai has operated and helped restore vision to more than 1.5 lac patients in
the last 40 years. He has provided ophthalmic care services to over 18 lac
patients through more than 3000 eye camps. These camps were conducted totally
free of charge irrespective of caste, creed, colour sex or socio-economic
status, mainly benefiting the under privileged people living below the poverty
line.
After completing his MBBS, DOMS, & MS in GSVM Medical
College, Kanpur, Dr Sahai was conferred with DO by the Royal College of Surgeons
& Physicians, London and is also a Fellow of the International College of
Surgeons and the coveted American College of Surgeons. He is a member of
innumerous international and national organisations and has authored several
books and has a large number of research publications to his credit.
